Description
This listing is for a circa 1922 well used WATERMAN 52 1/2 STERLING SILVER OVERLAY PEN IN THE SHERATON PATTERN. The mark on the base of the pen is partly obscured and I think it is more likely originally marked 452-1/2, rather than the 52 I can actually see. The slender pen is 5-3/8" long and has sterling clip and lever as well as the overlay itself. The Sheration pattern shows wear all over, but it is further along on the barrel where wear is prominent. Marks include CLIP-CAP, (globe logo) and STERLING on the clip, WATERMAN'S STERLING on the cap band, STERLING MADE IN USA on the upper barrel band, and an IDEAL globe logo on the lever tab. Base imprint is weak as discussed above. There is an empty cartouche within the barrel design. The top rim of the cap has some minor denting. The pen will need a new sac and probably a new j-bar before it will take up ink. However the most serious problem is three open cracks (1/2" or so) running to the top of the section. It looks like some attempt at sealing these was made, but I suspect a replacement section will be required as this will probably leak as is. The nib is a fine WATERMAN'S, IDEAL, REG. U.S., PAT. OFF., 2, MADE IN, U.S.A. It is a fine point with good iridium and with significant flexibility.Prior to bidding, please read below the information on payment, return policy and on international shipping.
