Description
Here, at about 5-3/8" is a rarely seen WATERMAN #414 black hard rubber pen, from about 1908. The pen is an eye dropper filler with STERLING SILVER FILIGREE overlay and sterling trim. The overlay is complete and in excellent condition as is the pen as a whole. I can see no evidence that this pen has ever had restoration. The only noted flaws on the pen is a small dent on the top of the cap and some extremely minor denting in the monogram or cartouche area of the filigree on the barrel. The top of the barrel overlay is marked WATERMAN'S IDEAL FOUNTAIN PEN. The base of the barrel overlay is marked STERLING (inverted). The monogram box is unused. The clip is marked CLIP- CAP then STERLING circling the left side of the globe logo. On opposite sides of the rivets is marked "PAT." and "SEP. 26, 05." The black hard rubber has excellent color with no evidence of toning. The only barrel imprint is the 414 at the base of the barrel (7th photo) and this is quite weak with the first 4 nearly worn away. Barrel to section threading is tight insuring a good ink seal. The slip-on cap clutches the barrel securely. Section and feed are clean. The feed has some very faint patent dating stamped on the underside...difficult to read. The #4 nib is a VERY flexible 14kt WATERMAN, IDEAL, NEW YORK, 4, a finepoint, a little wavy well before the tip. The right tine dips slightly at the point otherwise straight and with good iridium. Super pen!Prior to bidding, please read the information on payment, return policy and on international shipping. Thanks.
