Description
You are bidding on an 8 x 10 black and white photograph of HMS Dreadnought, the prototype all big gun battleship which served in the Royal Navy from 1906 to 1920.The Dreadnought began her life His Majesty’s Dockyard Portsmouth on 02 October 1905. She was launched by King Edward VII , on 10 February 1906 and commissioned into the Royal Navy on 02 December 1906.
With her commissioning the Dreadnought made every other Battleship (including the Royal Navy’s obsolete. She missed the Battle of Jutland due to a refit but still holds the distinction of being the only Battleship ever to engage and sink a submarine when she rammed and sunk U 29 on March 18, 1915.
By the end of First World War and being too slow to keep up with contemporary Battleships she was decommissioned on 31 March 1920 and broken up in Scotland in 1923.
Photograph one is circa 1906 and shows an overall waterline port bow view..
Item 2 is an 8 x 10 colour statistics sheet showing one of the ships unofficial badges, general characteristics, callsign, trivia and the ensigns she proudly flew.
Item three is a photo quality short history of the Dreadnought with a list of her Commanding Officers, and a colour ine drawing.
