Description
This silver butter jar / dish was made in the 1950s by a silversmith with the initials ST.Decorated with the classic Djokja Lotus flower design.
The set includes a silver tray, a silver lid, a silver butter knife and a glass liner.
The glass was made by Fire-King in the USA and holds 5 ounces.
Provenance: Bought at a Maastricht antique shop.
Silver grade: 800/1000
Total silver weight: 175 grams or approx. 5.63 Troy ounces.
Height: 8.0 centimeter or approx. 3.15 inches.
Width: 11.0 centimeter or approx. 4.33 inches.
Length butter knife: 15 centimeter or approx. 5.91 inches.
Condition: Both the silver and the glass are in a very good condition. Just normal traces of regular use.
The name Djokja / Yogya silver originates from the town name of Djokjakarta, Java, Indonesia.
Between 1930 and 1970, a lot of silver was made in Kota Gede, a town next to Djokjakarta.
All Djokja silver are hand made and therefore every piece is unique.
