    Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1927 Waterman #55 Red Ripple Hard Rubber Fountain Pen with Stub Nib. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.
Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil - the inside of the cap is very clean. I have cleaned, buffed, and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new sac. Hand polished the 18K Gold Filled Cap Banding, Gold Filled Waterman Clip, Gold Filled Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman 14K #5 Stub Nib.
This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in the Red & Black ripple pattern. The coloring is gorgeous displaying deep red and black coloring. The lever box assembly is very clean with "IDEAL" on the lever easily seen with the naked eye and displays no wear. The Waterman Ideal Clip-Cap Clip has been polished to shine brightly and only shows the tiniest of wear on the ball of the clip and on the very left edge of the clip where "CAP" is stamped on the clip. The gold-filled cap banding is in perfect condition displaying no wear. All 18K Gold Filled trim has been polished to shine brightly. This Waterman 55 barrel has an imprint at the center, albeit somewhat light but can be easily read, of the barrel that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG. U.S. IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFF. FOUNTAIN PEN". The butt end of the fountain pen has the "55" imprint. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalization to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman #55 measures 5 1/2" in length capped, 7" posted .48" inches in diameter on the barrel, and weighs 18 grams or .63 ounces.
The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the lever filling systems with water and works flawlessly and as it was originally intended to.
This Waterman has a WATERMAN IDEAL 14K #5 Stub Nib. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .97mm when measured with digital calipers - a broad Stub nib point. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with an extra-fine to double broad stroke/line variation. The extra-fine line measures roughly .37mm with light pressure on horizontal strokes and the double broad strokes measure at 1.23mm with a firm to medium pressure on the downward strokes when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.
This 1927 Waterman #55 Red Ripple Hard Rubber Fountain Pen has a wonderful writing nib that writers will enjoy. It is a larger size fountain pen in length and girth but not a heavy pen where your hands tire. I would consider the condition, color, trim, and nib of this fountain pen to grade in Excellent condition. This Waterman #55 Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition or add it to your writing arsenal.

    Please Read Carefully Before Bidding:
I strive to find unique and difficult to find pieces that I believe will capture the attention of collectors. I spend a great deal of time traveling, talking with people, sitting at auctions and waiting in line at estate sales to find these pieces. Some of the items are "farm fresh" and some I have had in my possession for years and time to let others enjoy. Please make sure this item is what you want before bidding. If you would like different pictures or have concerns about damage, on whether it is repainted or repaired ask before bidding. If I can find out, I will. These are antiques so expect them not to be "perfect".
